What is floor sleeping?

Floor sleeping is exactly what you think it is, sleeping on the floor.

Floor sleeping is nothing new, as in the past with hunter and gather societies.

Some if not most people slept on the ground back then.

Over time our bodies became used to sleeping on the ground and stayed healthy because of it.

Why does floor sleeping have so many benefits?

Sleeping on the floor acts like a massage.

The floor ‘massages’ your muscles while you move, allowing the body to release any tension it has.

Also, sleeping on the floor makes your body stronger as it needs to be able to handle a hard surface for around 8 hours a night.

Finally, sleeping on the floor resets your posture because the muscles near your spine will relax the tension responsible for any improper posture.

How do you sleep on the floor?

Sleeping on the floor is simple, and is cost-effective as well.

There are 3 steps to sleeping on the floor.

Step 1.) Decide where you want to sleep.

Different surfaces will make your sleep different.

On concrete, you’ll have a cooler sleep, other surfaces such as carpet will have a little more warmth.

Overall, the floor will be cooler no matter where you decide to sleep.

Step 2.) Make your bed.

There are different ways to make your bed on the floor.

For more comfort, you may want to consider using a couple of sheets on the floor.

Another alternative is to set up a thin mattress, such as 4 – 6 inches thick.

Both options will help if you’re new to sleeping on the floor.

Step 3.) Sleep.

Going to sleep on the floor is no different than sleeping on a bed.

To get good sleep for both make sure you are tired before you sleep.

However, the ideal position is to sleep on your back.

Sleeping on your side is alright too, just be sure to have a comfortable pillow.

In my personal experience, I find lying on my back for 10 – 30 minutes gets me ready to sleep.

Once I’m ready to sleep I row over on my side and pass out.

Negatives from sleeping on the floor.

  • Less comfortable at first, but less scrolling on your phone.

  • Requires you to do somewhat of a burpee to get out of bed.

  • Requires you to move your floor bed every day, location dependant.

  • It may take a while to get used to.

In Conclusion.

Sleeping on the floor won’t change your life dramatically but it does have positive benefits.

Sleeping on the floor may fix problems such as bad posture, back pain, and poor sleep.

It may take a bit to get used to, but try it for a week.

Not to forget the obvious, it is free to do or cost very little.
